my new book and shadow show:
Camel Rock
Twenty seven nautical miles off Lands End at the far southwestern tip of Cornwall, across the fabled sunken land of Lyonesse, lie the beautiful Isles of Scilly. This magical archipelago is comprised of six inhabited islands; St Agnes, Gugh, St Martins, Bryher, Tresco and St Mary’s plus a myriad other small rocky islets.
On St Mary’s eastern shore there is a small, tidal inlet called Porth Hellick.
On its rocky northern outcrop, watching over the cove, fields, flowers and burial chambers beyond, sits Camel Rock.

Many years ago a travelling Circus visited the Isles.
The place where they performed has ever since been known as ‘The Circus Field’.
"Myths and legends, verse and rhyme
"Myths and legends, verse and rhyme
may shift and change with tides and time
But in the magic of Porth Hellick bay
But in the magic of Porth Hellick bay
a Camel sits this very day."

In the misty mountains of Dhofar,
The carpet flew then stopped above
a mystic sat with ancient thread
And wove a carpet from the stars,
And wove a carpet from the stars,
then with the last stitch he was dead.
Across the fertile Bekaa valley,
Across the fertile Bekaa valley,
through the Caves of Kandahar,
over forests, waterfalls and alleys
over forests, waterfalls and alleys
and the bustling port of Khorramshahr.
The carpet flew then stopped above
an oasis where an old man wept
by the body of a soul he loved
while a new born camel in near death slept.

Then glowing, floated gently down
and wrapped the calf in cosmic light
spreading magic all around
spreading magic all around
to keep her safe throughout the night.
From astral symbols in the sky
the mystic rained down joyful tears
of shooting stars like fireflies
of shooting stars like fireflies
to light her path across the years……
So begins the story of how the iconic Scillonian landmark ‘Camel Rock’ came to be.
